Weeks later and I'm still getting letters on the marijuana issue:
Well yes, as a non-user and a Canadian it would remove one more barrier to trade between our countries while America catches up with the civilized world. Free trade is always a good. Prohibition is always a "bad". If nothing else it would reduce the American consumer's dependence on politically unstable South American sources in the same sense that development of the Alberta Tar sands (with the necessary commitment to conservation) would be to the eventual benefit of America.
Canada has a "semi-monopoly" over both "politically secure" marijuana and oil. I would be very happy, as a Canadian, to see this fact recognized and for government policy in the USA to be rational. I don't expect rationality with the present administration with their ideologically driven views, but I hope for a much better view of reality with the next president.

This should have been done years ago. I believe that there is no harm in making it as legal as an alcoholic beverage. Why should people be allowed to get drunk and it be considered perfectly legal? Yet when they get pulled over and are found to be intoxicated by marijuana they are considered drug abusers, sellers and everything else. I know that there are people out there sick and the drug helps them. I also know that there are people out there who abuse it too. This is no different than drinking alcohol. People abuse this on a daily basis and yet its still out there on the shelves able to be bought by anyone 21 yrs of age an older. It should be the consumers choice on whether to drink alcohol or to smoke marijuana. If you wanted to do it you should have the right.
