Your Responses - Dubya

By Mike Moffatt, About.com

Unfortunately, I think the election will be decided by media coverage and media opinion. Whatever TV reports and to some extent newspapers, repeatedly tell Americans about the election they tend to believe.

---

This electon may not hold to previous patterns due in large part to extreme partisanship and the continuing distortion of facts, figures, and statistics by the Bush administration. They insist that the economy is doing well, even that it is rebounding after suffering under Clinton!! Most Americans don't bother to research the issues for themselves and will believe whatever 'their' candidate tells them, and whatever they hear in the media (notoriously slavish to the Bush Administration).

---

Your article concerning the Economic Indicators and Bush have two significant shortcomings (in my opinion):

1. You should compare Bush's record with Clinton's FIRST term in office. Comaring first terms only makes sense. Secondly Clinton began his administration struggling out of an economic downturn much as Bush has.

2. You need to make a "wartime" adjustment. Look at historical numbers for Presidents seeking reelection in times of conflict. 9/11 changed everything.
