Definition: An award given by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in the fields of physics, chemistry, literature, medicine and peace. An economics prize was added after the other awards were created and is technically called the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. The economics prize was established and endowed by Sveriges Riksbank, Sweden's central bank, in 1968 on the bank's 300th anniversary.
