Definition of Independence / Independent Random Variables: Two random variables X and Y are statistically independent if and only if their joint density (pdf) is the product of their marginal densities, that is if f(x,y)=fx(x)fy(y).

If two random variables are independent they are also uncorrelated. (Econterms)
