Do you have an article you've written that you want read by a broad audience? Articles on About.Com are read by thousands of visitors a day and can provide great exposure for writers. The About Economics Web site seeks to publish well-written, informative, forward thinking articles and ideas.
Writer's Guidelines
Topics: Any subject that will interest readers and has content relating to economics. Our typical topics are the ones seen on the Subjects menu on the left-hand side of the screen. Topics range from mainstream Macroeconomics to more esoteric topics such as Agricultural Economics, the Economics of Peer-to-Peer File Sharing, and Sports Economics. The topics we publish deal with forward thinking ideas in economics. We try to stay away from material you can find everywhere else online.
Format: Pieces published are generally under 2,000 words in length. They are formatted with the best online features including many sub-headings and lists of relevant tips. Supporting material and links to Web sites that expand the topic are welcome. Articles focus on "what you need to know" content.
Here are a few examples of how articles are typically written and formatted:- What does the value of the Dow Jones represent?
- Do changes in stock prices cause recessions?
- A Public Good Through the Eyes of College Freshmen
- A rating between 0 and 5 stars
- A list of 1-3 positive points about the book (pros)
- A list of 1-3 negative points about the book (cons)
- A one or two sentence "Bottom Line" about the book
- A detailed review of the book
- A recommendation (should the reader purchase or not purchase the book)
Editing: The Economics Guide reserves the right to edit your submission for clarity, style, and format. You will not have final review rights before your article is published. If you read through the site, you will find that all authors have been well-served in this editing process.
Payment: About Economics is not a paying market. In writing an article for About Economics, your blog or personal website will receive an increase in the number of visitors. Think of it as a free form of advertising and exposure. All authors receive a brief biographical sketch that includes links to your Web site and your email. This is published with your article.
Author Rights: If you are submitting a potential feature article, we request exclusive worldwide electronic rights to publish the article at the About Economics site for thirty days. About.com and Mike Moffatt, Economics Guide, retain non-exclusive rights after thirty days to archive your article on the site and all other rights as stated in the disclaimer below, which you must submit to be published. At no point do you lose your rights to your work.
If you have written a paper that you feel is perfect for the site and it has been published elsewhere online, please email the Guide. If the distribution has been narrow, your piece might still merit consideration for publication here.
Submission: Use this form to submit content and material for consideration or follow the email instructions below the form. If you do not hear from the Guide within five working days, please send email to the Guide to make sure your submission was received.
