Since you've obviously been inundated by counterpoints to your article, I will spare you my complete response. Many have already said what I think about the issue. Let me just provide a rebuttal to your "Final Thought":
"The income tax was originally 3% and only applied to a small segment of the population. Look where it is today. If we enact the FairTax today, what will rates be in a few generations?"
There is one big, BIG difference between an income tax and a sales tax, and it's the most important thing to consider: people notice when sales taxes go up. If you don't believe me, start asking people when the last sales tax increase was, and how much it was. There are surprisingly many who can respond with accuracy. When the most controversial issue on an election ballot is whether or not to raise the rate by a quarter of a percent, it's easy to see that people really do care about taxes... when it's hitting their pocketbook directly.
Conversely, very few can tell you when the last income tax increase was. Most don't realize that when a politician promises a tax cut, they're really referring to an tax increase to one group, to cover for an added credit to another group. Imagine if FairTax was law; politicians would be forced to promise ACTUAL TAX CUTS!
The simple truth is that rates are high because people are left in the dark about how income tax collection really works. Today's politicians make just enough promises to get themselves into office, and then it's the usual business of tax and spend. The only way to stop taxes from spiraling out of control is to put the power in the hands of the taxpayers, and the only way to do that is to repeal the 16th Amendment and implement FairTax.
