Definition: NELS stands for the National Educational Longitudinal Survey, a U.S. survey administered to 24,599
eighth grade students from 1052 schools in 1988, with follow-up surveys to the
same students every two years afterward. Many similar questions were asked of
the parents of the students as well to obtain more accurate
information.
