Tim Harford's The Undercover Economist is one of the most popular general-interest economics books on the market. The popularity of the book is largely due to the fact that is tries to explain a lot of the conundrums of everyday life- as the subtitle puts it, "Why the Rich Are Rich, the Poor Are Poor - and Why You Can Never Buy a Decent Used Car!"- using principles of economics.
Clearly such a book would be incomplete without some discussion of the financial crisis, so Tim added in such a chapter for the latest edition of the book. Luckily for those of use who bought the first edition, he's nice enough to make the new chapter available for free on his web site. Economists like to say that there's no such thing as free, but this is about as close as you can get, so enjoy it. :)
