Another Treasure Trove of Economics Material, Reddit Style...

Follow me on:

As an economist who works both inside an out of academia, one of my biggest frustrations is the fact that most research done by academic economists never really sees the light of day in the non-academic world. I do think that economists such as Steve Levitt and Dan Ariely have made great strides in this area with books like Freakonomics and Predictably Irrational, but there's still a long way to go before most economic research reaches the public discourse.

On the other hand, some fine folks at Reddit are working to change that a bit. They've created an EconPapers Reddit channel where people can submit and comment on economic papers. Some of the papers are a little technical for a general audience ("Heterogeneity and Tests of Risk Sharing," for example), but a lot of them directly address issues such as school effectiveness, tax policy, and banking crises, and my guess is that a lot of the comments are at least as interesting as the papers themselves.

In summary, this could be an interesting and nerdy new way to procrastinate at work. :)
